The Nocpix MATE H38R thermal clip-on is a thermal imaging attachment that mounts in front of your day scope and turns it into a night observation and shooting system, without changing the scope or its reticle. It combines a 640×512 sensor with ≤ 15 mK NETD, a wide-field 38 mm F1.0 objective lens and a laser rangefinder up to 1200 m, in a 457 g body.
Features
- 640×512 sensor at 12 µm, ≤ 15 mK NETD and 60 Hz: Nocpix in-house VOx detector with shutterless imaging. The image does not freeze for calibration, which helps when following moving animals.
- 38 mm F1.0 objective lens: 11.6° × 8.7° field of view (20.5 × 15.4 m at 100 m) and a detection range of 1950 m stated by the manufacturer for a 1.7 × 0.5 m target. Focus is set with the lens ring.
- 0.49-inch AMOLED display, 1920×1080: eyepiece with 35 mm exit pupil and 20 mm eye relief.
- Built-in laser rangefinder up to 1200 m (±1 m, Class 1): single or continuous ranging, with ballistic calculation that, according to the manufacturer, corrects the image itself so the aiming point matches the calculated point of impact. Ballistic calculation works with single ranging.
- MAGIC ZOOM included: an accessory that attaches to the magnification ring of the day scope. When the scope magnification is increased, the on-screen icons remain visible and the image is enhanced automatically by the R+ algorithm.
- M52 × 0.75 thread: mounts in front of the day scope objective with an adapter (sold separately) chosen by the outer diameter of the objective. The manufacturer states 1 MOA repeatability after mounting and removing, with no need to re-zero the rifle.
- Two-piece magnesium alloy body: recoil resistance up to 7000 J, IP67 protection and operation from −20 °C to +50 °C.
- Replaceable 18650 battery: up to 4 hours of operation at 22 °C. It charges in the charger or through the USB-C port, which also provides 5 V external power.
- Recording and connectivity: photo and video on 64 GB of internal memory, recoil-activated video (RAV), gallery, Wi-Fi with the Nocpix app, N-link to share data with another Nocpix device and remote control. It stores up to 8 zeroing profiles, which can be renamed in the app.
Why choose this model?
The MATE H38R is the lightest and most compact clip-on with a rangefinder in the series. The 38 mm lens with a 640×512 sensor gives a wide field of 20.5 × 15.4 m at 100 m, which helps to locate and follow animals at short and medium distances.
It has everything the larger models have: 1200 m rangefinder, ballistic calculation, MAGIC ZOOM, 64 GB and IP67. For more reach, see the MATE H50R (2600 m detection); for maximum detail and field, the MATE ULTRA S60R.

How to choose
There are four choices in the MATE series. The MATE LITE L38 (384×288, 38 mm, 399 g) is the simplest and lightest, without a rangefinder. The MATE H38R (640×512, 38 mm) has the widest field of the 640 models and a rangefinder. The MATE H50R (640×512, 50 mm) trades field for reach: detection up to 2600 m. The MATE ULTRA S60R (1280×1024, 60 mm) combines a wide field with detection up to 3100 m.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to replace my scope to use the MATE H38R?
No. The clip-on mounts in front of your existing day scope with an M52 × 0.75 thread adapter chosen by the outer diameter of the objective. The adapter is bought separately.
Do I have to re-zero the rifle when I mount the clip-on?
The day scope keeps its zero and the manufacturer states 1 MOA repeatability when mounting and removing. If the point of impact shifts, the MATE H38R has its own zeroing function, which moves the image and stores up to 8 profiles.
What range does the MATE H38R rangefinder have?
It measures up to 1200 m with ±1 m accuracy (Class 1 laser), in single or continuous mode. Ballistic calculation uses single ranging.
What battery does it use and how long does it last?
One replaceable 18650 battery, with up to 4 hours of operation at 22 °C. Real battery life depends on the use of Wi-Fi, the rangefinder and recording.
Can the MATE H38R be used as a monocular?
Yes. The manual provides a monocular mode as well as the clip-on mode in front of the scope.
At what distance does the MATE H38R detect an animal?
The manufacturer states 1950 m for a 1.7 × 0.5 m target. Detection means seeing that there is a heat source; recognising and identifying the animal requires much shorter distances.
