1. Are bows and crossbows considered weapons in Portugal?
Yes, according to the Weapons Law, approved in 2006, and subsequent amendments, bows and crossbows are considered weapons and are legal if intended for sporting or hunting purposes.
2. Can I freely purchase a Bow or a Crossbow in Portugal?
Both are freely available for sale to people over 18 years of age, but their possession, detention, transportation or use is prohibited, except for sports or hunting.
In Portugal there is no license to use or carry a weapon for these items.
3. Can I import to Portugal a bow or a crossbow?
Yes, you can import a bow/crossbow to Portugal. It is recommended that you consult the PSP (Weapons and Explosives Department) in advance to obtain a license to import weapons, in order to facilitate the customs clearance process.
You will also need to have a Hunter's License or be registered with a Bow and Crossbow club to justify ownership of the equipment.
Note: Please also note that the prices shown on foreign websites don't include shipping costs, customs clearance fees, police inspections, taxes, VAT etc. that substancially increase the final price.
4. Can we ship Bows/Crossbows, AirGuns or other items to your country?
Yes, we can ship/export our items to your country.
ATTENTION: It is the buyer's responsibility to check with local authorities and laws whether or not the item can be received, obtain any purchase authorizations / import licenses.
Arcobesta is in no way responsible in case of seizure by customs or other authorities.
4. What happens if you have a Bow/Crossbow in Portugal and are not registered with a sports club or have a hunter's license?
If you cannot prove that the bow or crossbow is used for sporting or hunting purposes, these may be considered prohibited weapons.
In addition to the equipment being seized, criminal proceedings may be opened with the application of a fine or other sanctions.
5. Do I have to be a member of a federation to practice Archery or Crossbow shooting?
There is no article in the law that specifies that you must be federated, but the practice of sport must be classified, so you must be registered with a sports club that practices the sport.
Through a federated club, you can register as a federated athlete in order to obtain sports insurance and be able to participate, if you wish, in sports competitions.
6. ABCPT - Is Arco Besta Clube a federated Club?
Yes. The Arco Besta Clube is federated in the FPTA (bows - Olympic and precision shooting) and in the FABP (bows and crossbows - field shooting, simulated hunting, historical).
When you register with ABCPT you will receive a membership card, so you can transport and train with your bow/crossbow.
At any time you can join the ABCPT to participate in competitions or obtain sports insurance.

8. With my Portuguese hunting license can I own and hunt with a Bow / Crossbow?
Yes. Currently, anyone with a Portuguese hunter's license can own a bow or a crossbow.
To hunt with a bow or crossbow you no longer need to take any additional exams. However, you must have valid hunting licenses and insurance. When transporting the beast for hunting, it must be properly packaged. In crossbows, the use of a trigger lock is recommended (not mandatory)
9. Can I freely purchase an airgun in Portugal?
Yes, air guns are sold without licensing to those over 18 years of age. The models sold by us are below 24 Jules and caliber 4,5 or 5,5 mm, so they are considered free to use to target practice, therefore it is not necessary to have a gun license.

10. How should I transport my air pressure?
The equipment must be transported properly stored in a case or special case.
Remember that these are weapons that, by their appearance, can cause panic. Although not mandatory, the use of a trigger lock is recommended.
They must be transported together with the purchase invoice, which must include the Holder's identification.
